Anyone who either works with artificial intelligence or even just has a passing interest in it will already realize that AI has accelerated recently. There are a plethora of statistics about the heavily increased use of AI within companies and there are many technology startups that are creating and placing on the market many different types of AI models and systems.
Similarly, there has been an uptick in AI-based jobs. This applies both to AI -specific jobs, and the requirement for AI-based knowledge in existing jobs, such as amongst data protection professionals or IT security staff.
The IAPP recently released the AI Governance Professional Certification, to accompany their existing privacy certifications. The IAPP is a world-recognized organization whose certifications are frequently mentioned among the requirements in job adverts.
So the question is, what will the AIGP do for you?
Let’s be realistic; the AIGP on its own won’t land you a job at Head of AI at a large company. However, for many people it will be very useful to improve their career paths. If you are one of the following people, obtaining the AIGP is a good idea for you.
First, it will supplement your existing credentials. For example, if you have some practical experience working with artificial intelligence and can demonstrate some good technical knowledge, the missing link to obtain a lucrative employment opportunity may be the lack of an official certification. In this case, the AIGP will be extremely valuable, since it can help you come across as the complete job applicant.
Secondly, there are many out there with significant experience in artificial intelligence, though their experience (or education) is all targeted towards other aspects of AI systems. For example, many have amazing expertise in the mathematical or coding side of artificial intelligence. There may be others who have audited AI systems or worked only on the data protection elements of AI systems. However, to achieve more generalist roles, these individuals would benefit from also proving their AI governance credentials. Even though it also required other forms of knowledge, the AIGP is specifically targeted to AI governance, so can fill that gap.
Thirdly, there are professionals within some specific sectors, such as data protection, internal audit, compliance, legal and management, who would benefit from understanding how to properly govern an AI system. Such professionals frequently interact within AI systems. They often work in their respective teams, and work related to AI systems will most likely be allocated to those with the AIGP certification instead of those without. This can be a competitive advantage that leads to promotions and pay rises. It is also an opportunity to work in an interesting and upcoming field.
Fourthly, to work with artificial intelligence, we all need a start. It is not possible to acquire AI experience out of nothing. Obtaining the AIGP could give you the start you need to start acquiring experience in AI. Of course, you will need to build up expertise and workplace experience, but if AIGP can help you get that start, we think it is completely worth it.
There is a cost associated with obtaining the AIGP, but provided one of the above situations apply to you, we think it is completely worth the cost, which is minimal compared to the increases in salary that you could obtain.
We offer the most cost-effective training for the AIGP exam from trainers with the highest experience and pedigree.
